Emojis are already making their way into navigation, expanding their use beyond simple texting. Emojis may now be added to bookmarked places on Google Maps, giving users a more personalized and quick way to find their preferred locales.
It’s definitely a quirky way of finding your favorite spots in the city
The time when you had to strain your eyes to read tiny text and pins on your screen is long gone. You can now designate an emoji for your preferred pizza place or favorite gym, such as a basketball. The steps are straightforward: open the Saved tab in the app, create or change your list, and presto! Your list now has a dash of personality thanks to your chosen emoji.
The hitch is that this useful function is not applicable to Google Maps’ default lists, such as “Want to go” or “Favorites.” You must assume control and create your list from scratch. In Google’s video example, a “Fav Coffee Spots” list is created and ornamented with an appropriate coffee cup emoji.
So why is Google acting in this manner? It most likely has to do with improving user interaction. Traditional map pins serve their purpose but are uninteresting. However, there is a lot more that emojis can say. When you zoom out on Google Maps, you’ll see emojis that represent your customized locations rather than a sea of undifferentiated pins. In addition to improving the map’s aesthetics, it speeds up your search by eliminating the need to tap each spot to learn what it is.
A world of opportunities is made possible by this update. Will navigation applications soon add more customization features? Only time will tell. Enjoy your emoji-filled trips for the time being to add a little bit of excitement and make them distinctly yours.
