A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-themed Hades-style video game was also unexpectedly released.
Subscribers to Apple Arcade typically receive a new game every Friday, but aside from those guaranteed weekly updates, the service has had a rather sluggish year. Nevertheless, Apple is keeping up with its gaming objectives by releasing 20 new titles for the service as the spring and summer gaming seasons get underway. Among these are the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game, a sequel to the humorous game What the Golf?, and a city-building game with a sustainability theme from Sim City creators.
Cityscapes: Sim Builder
Cityscapes by Magic Fuel Games, created by former Sim City developers Sim Builder is an Apple Arcade-only title that shares a lot of the DNA of that series but with a more contemporary aesthetic. It has mobile sensibilities, comfortable touch controls, and a campaign mode that focuses on solving manageable problems for different mayors across several communities. One of the key conceits here is “sustainability,” as you’ll have to build parks and green spaces to manage pollution generated by your other buildings and have some degree of walkability to keep your citizens happy. There are also citizen requests to handle and the ability to really focus on just a single city, but one of the key conceits here is “sustainability.” Consider it as a more conventional
TMNT Splintered Fate
The Turtles’ video game aspirations received new energy with TMNT Shredder’s Revenge, last year’s homage to ’90s arcade games, and now we’re receiving the series’ next installment. With a top-down viewpoint and a Hades-inspired roguelike gameplay, Splintered Fate is an Apple Arcade exclusive and takes a fresh approach. Each turtle has a variety of special moves that can be activated with the tap of a button and can combo together—for example, one turtle may set an enemy on fire while another uses a move that deals extra damage to blazing enemies—and players guide the Turtles through procedurally generated levels in Manhattan in an effort to recover Splinter after he mysteriously vanished.
The actors that voice the turtles in the game include Roger Craig Smith (Sonic the Hedgehog) and Yuri Lowenthal (Insomniac’s Spider-Man games). Shredder and other characters, including as April O’Neil, are also expected to appear. The script, which was co-written by Tom Waltz, is heavily influenced by the IDW comic universe, despite the fact that the game itself isn’t actually situated there, according to a developer.
